About
Yoga saved my Life.
Namaste! My name is Carson Kadatz but most people know me as CarsonZi.
I am a certified Hatha Yoga Teacher but I practice and teach the AYP (The Advanced Yoga Practices) system of Yoga. I have been involved with the AYP system since early 2008, am a Moderator on the Support Forum, and have been teaching the system since October 2008.
AYP is an open and integrated system of practices designed to unfold natural ecstatic radiance. The techniques act directly through the heart, mind, body, breath and sexuality. The practices taught in these classes include deep meditation using an efficient universal mantra, advanced spinal breathing pranayama methods, asanas, mudras and bandhas, samyama, self-inquiry, and an integration of hatha, kundalini and tantra techniques, all designed to aid in steadily cultivating inner silence and enlightenment through daily practice. Much attention is devoted in the classes to developing skills in “self-pacing,” with the aim of assisting every practitioner in becoming self-sufficient in yoga. I am a walking testament to the efficacy of the AYP practices as I come from a background of physical and mental addictions, which were solely conquered through twice daily AYP practices.
When I was 19 years old I started a band and opened a recording studio. The stress of working a full time day job, writing, recording, practicing and performing music, combined with playing Marketer, Promoter, Booking Agent, PR Director, Studio Engineer, Merchandiser and more, was more then I knew how to cope with and I turned to drugs as a coping mechanism. By the age of 21 I was fully physically addicted to injecting methamphetamine and heroin “speedballs” several times a day and was smoking a quarter ounce of marijuana everyday as well. This combined with a 7 year failing relationship brought me to the point of attempting suicide. After spending some time in the hospital sorting myself out I chose to get on the methadone program and quit injecting methamphetamine and heroin. But getting off the methadone program proved to be exponentially harder then quitting my initial addictions. After spending more then 3 years unsuccessfully trying to downdose off the methadone program I gave up and resigned myself to being an addict for life. This is when I found AYP (The Advanced Yoga Practices). I had done a fair amount of yoga in the past, but every other style I had previously tried was basically just stretching exercises and seemed to lack the “spiritual” aspect I was really looking for. After finding AYP, reading through some of the lessons and really resonating with them, I decided to try the system for myself. For 4 weeks I did “Deep Meditation” twice a day for 20 minutes a time. After my 4rth week I decided to add “Spinal Breathing Pranayama” as suggested by Yogani, the author of the AYP system, for 10 minutes before each meditation. By week 5 I was so intoxicated on my regular daily methadone dose that I was falling asleep at the wheel of my car and passing out while at work. I decided to try an experiment and cut out an unheard of 30% of my daily dose just to see what would happen. I did so and I waited for the withdrawals to kick in….but they never came. Two weeks later I dropped another 30% with the same results….still no withdrawals. 8 weeks later I was completely clean and I hadn’t experienced any withdrawals. This was a complete medical and biological miracle….this wasn’t physically possible. I was totally sold on the effectiveness of the AYP system and I have been practicing it ever since. After about 18 months of consistant twice daily practices I received a scholarship to attend a Hatha Yoga Teacher Training program at Indigo Yoga/Open Source Yoga in White Rock, B.C. Here I learned the Universal Principles of Alignment, a couple hundred Hatha Yoga postures, how to design a proper posture sequence, how to weave Yoga philosophy into a class, and how to incorporate Yin Yoga, Pre-natal Yoga, Resorative Yoga, Thai Yoga Massage and much more into my classes.
Yoga has brought me to a personal understanding of my/our True Nature which is Pure, Unbound Awareness. We each and all are of One Source….Pure Bliss Consciousness.
